‘"FULFILLING OUR DESTINY"
By Roberta Souriol @ [email protected]
The Visions 2003 Planning Committee has been working very hard to coordinate our next Visions in Shared Management workshop in Mount Currie, BC on May 6-8, 2003. We have had several Conference Calls and have achieved quite a great deal to date.
One of our most exciting accomplishments is having George Leach as our entertainment after the banquette. He is from the Lilloette area and was pleased to be able to put on a performance for the evening. Everyone will enjoy this entertainment. If you have heard George Leach before you will be very please that he will be at the 2003 Visions.
We have also received a great response from several companies providing a financial contribution: BC Hydro, Regional Power Inc. Cloudworks Energy Inc. Squamish Lil’wat 2010 Aboriginal Secretariat, B & B Forestry, Fisheries & Oceans Canada, Habitat and Enhancement Branch and CRB Logging. We would like to thank the above companies for their contributions to assist with this great event.
Invitation letters to prominent members of the Mount Currie area along with the Visions Poster and Registration form will be sent out next week. The poster and registration form will also be put on the FRAFS website for your convenience. You can fax or e-mail your registration form to Roberta Souriol at (250) 828-2756 or [email protected] or to Katrina Williams at (604) 894-6163 or [email protected].
The Spirit of Aboriginal Youth magazine is looking at doing a feature article for Visions 2003. They had George Leach as their feature article last month. This will be ideal for good publicity for this event.
The Aboriginal Network will be approached to film this years Visions. That is exciting news. The members of the Planning Committee are working very hard to make the 2003 Visions a great success.
We are looking for First Nations to do presentations on projects that they are implementing and would like to share their successes at our Conference. The Technical Committee members will be available to assist in putting presentations together.
We are also looking for presentations from Fisheries & Oceans Canada and other Fisheries organizations. Please contact Ken Wilson at [email protected] if you are interesting in doing a presentation at this year’s Visions in Shared Management Workshop.
My position with the Fraser River Aboriginal Fisheries Secretariat may be coming to an end. I have received my notice from the Secwepemc Fisheries Commission for March 6, 2003 to be my last day. I have vacation time and severance that I have to use before March 31, 2003. Unless the funding goes through my last day will be March 6, 2003.
The Planning Committee will continue to coordinate the 2003 Visions as planned and I know that the members on the committee will do a great job of coordinating the workshop. Our next Conference Call is scheduled for March 4, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. An announcement will be made on who will continue to coordinate the workshop, if my last day remains to be March 6, 2003.
I would like to thank everyone on the Planning Committee for his or her dedication and hard work. Without members like you, the Visions 2003 would not be as successful as it is going to be. For more information contact Roberta Souriol at (250) 828-2178 or [email protected].
